From High Current to High Reliability-A Next-Generation Power Connector Solution

As unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and intelligent robots continue to evolve toward higher power, longer operating time, and greater autonomy, battery systems have become a critical foundation for both system performance and operational reliability.
For both UAVs and robotic systems, a typical power architecture can generally be represented as:
Battery Pack → Power Distribution Module → Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) / Motor Controller → Motor / Actuator
The battery pack serves as the primary power source, delivering energy through the power distribution module to ESCs, motor controllers, and other drive components, while also potentially supplying computing modules, sensors, and other electronic systems.
As system power requirements increase, battery capacity and operating current rise accordingly. For UAVs, high-power output directly affects takeoff, acceleration, wind resistance, and payload capacity. For robots and AMRs, it has a direct impact on drive performance, operating time, and long-term system stability.
As a result, the primary power interface between the battery pack and the system is becoming an increasingly important factor in overall system reliability.

Battery Interface Safety Begins with Every Connection
When a high-capacity lithium battery is connected to an ESC, power distribution module, or motor controller, the rapid charging of internal capacitors can generate a high inrush current, potentially causing sparks or electrical arcing at the contacts.
For agricultural drones, inspection UAVs, AMRs, and autonomous robots that require frequent battery replacement, repeated mating cycles can gradually lead to contact wear, increased contact resistance, and localized heat buildup, ultimately affecting connection stability.
For this reason, power connectors used in high-power equipment must provide more than high-current capability. They must deliver:
High Current + Low Loss + Safe Mating + Reliable Connection

AF Series,Advancing High-Current Transmission with Safer Mating
To meet the high-power requirements of UAV and robotic applications, NEXTRON developed the AF Series high-current connectors, integrating electrical performance, mating safety, and future expandability into a single connector platform.
Designed for high-power applications, the AF90 supports 45A current transmission with 10 AWG wire under ΔT ≤ 30°C conditions, while maintaining contact resistance at ≤ 1.2 mΩ.
Low contact resistance helps minimize power loss and heat generation during high-current transmission, enabling more stable power delivery from the battery pack to the ESC, motor controller, and drive system.
For enhanced electrical safety, the AF90 provides a 600V DC withstand voltage, offering greater insulation performance and safety margin for high-power systems. It also uses UL 94 V-0 flame-retardant material, further enhancing safety under prolonged operation and high-load conditions.
These specifications are not simply about achieving higher numbers. They are designed to address the real-world requirements of UAVs and robots operating within limited installation space while demanding high power output and long-term reliability.
Patented Anti-Arc Technology Reduces High-Power Mating Risks
Beyond stable high-current transmission, the AF Series also addresses one of the most critical moments in a power connection: the instant of mating.
The AF Series incorporates NEXTRON’s patented Anti-Arc technology, using a patented structure to help suppress inrush current during initial battery connection and reduce the impact of sparks and electrical arcing on the main power contacts.
This makes the AF Series particularly suitable for high-capacity battery systems and applications involving frequent battery replacement.
The patented architecture also provides reserved space for signal terminals, allowing future expansion beyond a conventional power-only connection. This creates design flexibility for future Power + Signal integration as UAVs and robots increasingly adopt smart battery management, real-time status monitoring, and modular control architectures.
Rather than being limited to a single high-current configuration, the AF Series is designed as an expandable platform capable of supporting the evolving power, monitoring, and control requirements of next-generation UAV and robotic systems.
In addition, the AF Series features a polarized, foolproof mating design, making the correct mating orientation easier to identify during battery replacement, assembly, and maintenance while reducing the risk of incorrect connection.
A More Complete High-Reliability Power Connection
Conventional power connectors have long been widely used in UAVs, RC systems, robots, and lithium-battery-powered equipment, with compact size and high-current capability forming the foundation of a mature market.
However, as UAV and robotic platforms move from consumer applications toward more professional, high-power, and intelligent systems, connector requirements are also evolving—from simply transmitting high current to providing safer, more reliable, and more expandable power connectivity.
The AF Series builds on the core advantages of high-current power interfaces while further integrating:
● Patented Anti-Arc Technology — Helps reduce sparks and electrical arcing during mating.
● Foolproof Mating — Reduces the risk of incorrect connection during rapid battery replacement, assembly, and maintenance.
● High Current & Low Loss — Supports the power requirements of high-performance ESCs, motor controllers, and motor systems.
● Expandable Architecture — Provides reserved space for signal terminals, enabling future Power + Signal integration.
By combining low-loss power transmission, safer mating, enhanced electrical safety, and future expandability, the AF Series provides a more complete high-reliability power connectivity upgrade for next-generation UAV and robotic systems.
